How to create an invoice with this generator

  1. Pick the document type. Use a tax invoice for taxable sales, a proforma invoice for quotes or advance requests, and a bill of supply when you cannot charge GST.
  2. Enter the invoice number and date. Keep the number unique and in sequence for the financial year, up to 16 characters, for example INV/2026-27/001.
  3. Add your business details. Name, address, state and GSTIN. When you type a valid GSTIN, the state is picked from its first two digits.
  4. Add the customer and place of supply. Add the buyer's GSTIN for B2B sales so they can claim input tax credit.
  5. List the items. Description, HSN or SAC code, quantity, unit, rate and GST rate. Add as many rows as you need.
  6. Apply discount, shipping and round-off. A discount on the total reduces the taxable value in proportion across items. Shipping is taxed at the highest item rate; if it should follow a different rate, add it as a separate item row instead.
  7. Download. Click Download PDF / Print and save as PDF, or print it directly.

CGST, SGST, UTGST or IGST?

The generator compares your state with the place of supply. Same state means half the rate as CGST and half as SGST. If the place of supply is a union territory without a legislature, such as Chandigarh, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands or Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, the second half is shown as UTGST. Different states means the full rate as IGST. Delhi, Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir use SGST because they have legislatures.

Worked example

A Delhi agency bills a Delhi client ₹25,000 for website design at 18% and ₹6,000 for printed brochures at 5%. Taxable value is ₹31,000. CGST is ₹2,250 + ₹150 = ₹2,400 and SGST is the same, so GST is ₹4,800 and the invoice total is ₹35,800. If the client were in Maharashtra, the same ₹4,800 would appear as IGST instead.

Tips for invoices that get paid

  • Put your UPI ID or bank details on the invoice so the customer can pay immediately.
  • Write clear payment terms and a due date.
  • Issue service invoices within 30 days of completing the work.
  • Send a credit note to correct a mistake instead of editing an old invoice.

Frequently asked questions

Is this invoice generator really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark on the invoice and no limit. It runs in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded or stored.

How do I download the invoice as a PDF?

Click Download PDF / Print and choose Save as PDF as the printer. Only the invoice is printed, on an A4 page.

Does it calculate CGST, SGST and IGST automatically?

Yes. If your state and the place of supply are the same, tax is split into CGST and SGST (or UTGST). If they differ, IGST is charged at the full rate. Mixed GST rates are totalled rate by rate.

Can I create an invoice without GST?

Yes. Choose Bill of supply for composition dealers or exempt supplies. GST columns are removed from the document.

Is an invoice from this generator valid under GST?

The layout includes the fields required by Rule 46, such as GSTIN, serial number, place of supply, HSN/SAC, taxable value, tax split, reverse charge and signature. You are responsible for entering correct details. If your turnover requires e-invoicing, B2B invoices must also be registered on the IRP.

Does it save my invoices?

No. Download each invoice as a PDF and keep your own numbering. If you want saved customers, automatic numbering and payment tracking, use MizUp Finance.
